The Guardian project at URBACT in Madrid
Riba-roja Town Council and Hidraqua presented Guardian at the URBACT “Urban Transfers” event in Madrid, attended by more than 150 participants.

A Guardian Project delegation made up of Riba-roja Town Council and the partner Hidraqua took part on 7 and 8 September in the “Urban Transfers” days organised by URBACT. Under the title ‘Sharing knowledge to improve the city’, the event featured a very dynamic programme including presentations by various national and international institutions, as well as spaces and workshops for project presentations and networking among the participating cities.
The meeting, held in Madrid, provided an opportunity to share real-life experiences, strengthen multi-level dialogue, open up new lines of work and proposals and, more generally, transfer knowledge to other cities.
Riba-roja and Hidraqua were able to work in workshops with other municipalities in attendance and present the UIA project they are developing together, “Guardian”, to the other participants. It stood out as one of the few projects that had actually been developed and delivered, which aroused a great deal of interest, as it offered not just a proposal but a project that was almost complete and awaiting a new phase of continuation.
The event was attended by more than 150 participants from many Spanish cities, as well as members of Spanish and European political institutions.
A replicable solution
GUARDIAN shows that reclaimed water can protect the wildland-urban interface. Let us know if you would like to apply it in your municipality.
