The GUARDIAN project begins the first tests of the hydraulic infrastructure that will supply the fire prevention and defense system with reclaimed water
Hidraqua completes the first filling of the 500 m³ Alpha tank with reclaimed water, the first step in testing GUARDIAN’s hydraulic infrastructure.

The GUARDIAN project, through Hidraqua, the partner responsible for the design and execution of the hydraulic infrastructure, has started the first tests of the installation. A remarkable milestone of the project is achieved, when the first filling of the Alpha main tank was completed with reclaimed water produced by the GUARDIAN Water Regeneration Station (ERA).

The Alpha tank is the first tank in the hydraulic system that collects the water from the regeneration station and distributes it through more than 6,500 meters of pipes and four more tanks to the cannons that will be responsible for creating the green barriers, which will act as firebreaks to prevent the advance of fire in the urban-forest interface area.
Filling this tank, with a capacity of 500 m3 (500,000 liters of water) is the first step towards completing the tests on 100% of the hydraulic infrastructure, which may begin to be carried out soon.
The reclaimed water is driven, by means of a pumping equipment located in the regeneration station itself, through a 63 mm diameter polyethylene pipeline, up to the level where the Alpha tank is located. The reclaimed water, in addition to supplying the hydraulic infrastructure for prevention and defense against fires, will also be contributed in part to the La Vallesa reservoir, in order to improve the quality of the water in this cataloged humid area.
For its part, a few months ago the water regeneration station was launched, the facility in charge of treating water to obtain a high quality of this resource that allows its reuse in the Turia Natural Park. All the tests carried out have been successfully passed guaranteeing that the quality of the water that is currently reaching the Alpha tank meets all the necessary parameters.
A replicable solution
GUARDIAN shows that reclaimed water can protect the wildland-urban interface. Let us know if you would like to apply it in your municipality.
